Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) Services
AI Crawlability
I am proficient in optimising websites for AI crawlability by using correct robots.txt directives, structuring content with clean HTML, semantic tags, and schema markups to ensure that your contents are easily understood by AI systems.
Optimising for Retrieval
This involves me improving your content for AI-driven retrieval by structuring it into well-defined, semantically rich chunks that effectively align with how modern large language models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity retrieve and generate answers to queries and prompts.
Trust & Authority
I enhance websites’ trust and authority signals by including expert bylines and sourcing reputable references to help scale your content’s trustworthiness in generative AI search results.
About me
I started being actively engaged in digital marketing and SEO in 2006, when I started my senior digital marketing manager role at a rapidly growing software company in the USA. In 2009, I created an innovative web analytics & digital marketing agency in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region, where I successfully established advanced web analytics and SEO strategies for a broad range of national companies from various sectors. The agency was later acquired by one of the largest independent digital marketing groups in 2014. It was then that I started taking charge of search strategies for Small and Medium-sized Businesses (SMBs), which helped to further develop my knowledge and skills. In 2016, I started providing advanced digital marketing services to companies worldwide. However, after the major shift in search experiences due to the arrival of AI search, I started working on my first case study in generative engine optimisation (GEO) and was providing GEO services for brands that are willing to improve their visibility in popular AI platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AIO, and Gemini.

Traditional SEO vs. Generative Engine Optimisation
Traditional SEO is primarily focused on optimising websites for keyword-based search engines by improving on-page elements, backlink profiles, technical structure, and content relevance. The major goal is to achieve a high ranking in the search engine results page (SERP) by targeting specific search queries and aligning with known algorithms.
GEO, on the other hand, is designed for AI-powered search experiences such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Gemini, and Google AI Overviews, which retrieve, chunk, and generate answers directly from the web sources, without showing traditional links.
GEO optimisation requires a completely different mindset that emphasizes structured, semantically-rich content that can be easily parsed and cited by large language models.
Instead of optimising for clicks, GEO is much more concerned about content retrievability, authority & trust signals, and prompt-level relevance to help ensure that your content is included in AI-generated responses. As AI search continues to grow in marketing value, it is more important to maintain visibility in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Aspect | Traditional SEO | Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) |
---|---|---|
Primary Focus | Ranking in keyword-based search engine results | Inclusion and citation in AI-generated answers (e.g., ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews & AI Mode) |
Optimisation Target | Search engines using traditional algorithms | AI models that retrieve, chunk, and synthesize information |
Objective | Drive organic traffic via clicks from search results | Maximize retrievability and visibility in AI responses |
Content Strategy | Search intent and content relevance | Structured, semantically-rich content that is optimised for LLM retrieval |
Technical Approach | On-page SEO, site speed optimisation, and mobile friendliness | Clear headings, schema markup, and consistent structure for chunking |
Success Metric | High SERP rankings and increased organic traffic | Citation frequency in AI responses, brand visibility in AI summaries |
Trust & Authority Signals | Domain authority, backlink profile | Transparent authorship, expertise, citations, credibility signals |
User Journey | Search – Click - Website | Query – Instant Answer from AI – Brand Mention or Citation |
Future Relevance | Still important but challenged by AI search adoption | Rapidly growing in importance as AI search expands |
Key GEO Strategies
Recent research and industry practice emphasize several tactics that significantly enhance content visibility in generative engine responses. Some of them include:
- Cite Credible Sources: Linking claims to reputable references helps to increase both credibility and the chances of being surfaced by AI
- Add Statistics & Data: Quantitative evidence, when added, helps to make content more authoritative and your brand more trustworthy, which is attractive to AI models
- Include Expert Quotations: The practice of using direct quotes from recognized authorities helps to add depth and increases the likelihood of being featured
- Use Unique Vocabulary: Developing content with specific topic-relevant terms helps AI models to identify and then select your content for niche queries
- Optimise for LLM Retrieval: LLM systems like ChatGPT have been observed to favor clear, easy-to-understand content as they are easy to retrieve, vectorise and then synthesize a response. Learn more about content optimisation for GEO in my blog article about ChatGPT optimisation.
Several empirical studies have shown that these measures, if adopted, can help boost your visibility in AI models’ responses by 30 – 40% when compared to unoptimised content.
Cost of GEO
The cost of implementing GEO strategies varies for different customers, depending on factors like:
- Your current content amount and production process
- Competitiveness of your industry
- The extent of your GEO objective
Compared to traditional SEO, GEO investments are even more content-driven and are more shifted towards rewriting, restructuring, and semantically-enriching existing material to make it retrievable and citable by AI systems. In addition to the text, AI systems frequently surface YouTube videos and images, therefore making content reuse another possible investment. It may also involve prompt-based content planning and expert-driven authority building.
GEO demands significant expertise in AI behavior, prompt engineering, and search intent mapping within language models. Several businesses may need to handle certain upfront costs for content strategy shift, one-time technical optimisation for LLM crawling, and AI search prompt testing. However, as the competition for AI-generated visibility continues to grow, early adoption and investment in GEO can help to provide a strong 1st-mover advantage and compounding returns over time, especially as generative search becomes a major discovery avenue.
Why Hire an External GEO Expert Instead of an Internal Team?
Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is a fast-developing field that demands a comprehensive understanding of how LLM systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AIO interpret, chunk, and synthesize web content.
Most internal teams, including very experienced SEO professionals, are not yet acquainted with the specialized knowledge required for successful GEO optimisation, which is needed to align content with AI retrieval models or optimise for prompt-based queries. Hiring an external GEO expert provides you with quick access to cutting-edge strategies, tools, and insights without the learning curve or the overhead of training an in-house team.
An external GEO expert brings about cross-industry experience, real-world testing results, and a fresh perspective to the table – all of which help to uncover opportunities your internal team might overlook. GEO experts can quickly audit your content through an AI lens, restructure key pages for maximum retrievability, and provide strategic recommendations that are optimised for the AI-driven search landscape.
When you work together with an expert, you get to fast-track implementation, avoid costly missteps, and ensure that your brand is highly visible in the next era of search without having to relocate your internal resources or reinvent your SEO playbook.
Generative Engine Optimisation FAQ
What is generative engine optimisation (GEO)?
GEO can be described as a process that involves the enhancement of your web content with the aim of making it visible and cited by AI search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews. It majorly focuses on structuring content so that it can easily be retrieved, chunked, and synthesized into AI-generated answers.
Why does GEO matter now?
As people increasingly turn to AI assistants everyday, traditional web search traffic keeps declining gradually. GEO ensures that your brand is represented in AI-generated responses and this helps to keep both your brand and content visible in this evolving age.
What does a GEO service include?
A typical GEO service consists of strategies such as prompt & topic research, restructuring content for AI retrievability, optimising semantic markup, strengthening trust and authority signals, and monitoring how the brand surfaces in AI-generated outputs.
How do you measure the success of GEO activities?
Every GEO activity is evaluated for success by monitoring how often your web content is retrieved, cited, or appears in AI-generated answers across platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. Examples of key indicators that are looked out for include; visibility in AI search responses, increases in branded or unlinked mentions, growth in organic traffic from AI-assisted platforms, and conversions attributed to AI-driven discovery paths.
How long does it take to see results from GEO?
The time when GEO strategies start to yield results varies in different customers depending on their starting point. However, most businesses start to see improvements in their visibility in within 8-16 weeks of implementation. Since AI models continuously adapt, GEO is an ongoing strategy that builds long-term exposure and authority.
